thermal.gg.utah.edu is the main web and file server for the Thermal Geophysics Group at the University of Utah. It was custom-built from off-the-shelf components, and is administered locally by the Thermal Geophysics Group. Persons and organizations with legitimate needs may be granted shell access to the system. Send email to root@thermal.gg.utah.edu stating your reasons.

Remote access to this system is limited to:

  • SSH - v2 is supported; connections are accepted from anywhere.
  • HTTP - thermal runs the Apache web server.

The system itself is as follows:

  • Gloss black case with window (no neon yet...)
  • Duron 1300 MHz CPU
  • 512 MB PC2100 DDR SDRAM
  • 18 GB Ultra-2 SCSI disk on-line (system)
  • 36 GB Ultra160 SCSI disk (/home)
  • CD-RW for data archive and distribution
  • Seagate DDS-3 internal tape drive
  • Seagate DDS-4 internal tape drive
  • Matrox Millenium G200 8MB SDRAM video board
  • Intel EtherExpressPro/100B 100Mb Fast Ethernet card (connected to internal 100Mbps switch)
